Habitat
Leopard geckos require a secure, well-ventilated enclosure with both warm and cool areas.
Minimum size:
- At least 40-gallon tank (or 36" x 16" x 20") tank for one adult
A proper setup should include:
- Warm hide, cool hide, and a moist hide
- Solid substrate (tile or reptile carpet)
- Clutter and hides for security
Leopard geckos are ground-dwelling and prefer low, sheltered spaces.
Diet
Leopard geckos are insectivores and require a protein-rich diet.
- Crickets, mealworms, and dubia roaches
- Feed insects appropriate to size
- Use the space between the geckos eyes as a guide for insect size
- Offer food 2-3 times per week for adults, daily for juveniles
- Provide fresh water at all times
Supplements:
- Calcium (regularly)
- Vitamin supplements (weekly)
Always dust insects before feeding.
Temperature & Lighting
- Warm side: 32–35°C
- Cool side: 27–29°C
Leopard geckos use belly heat to digest food:
- Use a heat mat or heat lamp with a thermostat
- Optional low-level UVB can be beneficial
Hydration & Shedding
- Provide fresh water daily
- Leopard geckos may eat their shed skin this is normal
- Use a moist hide to aid shedding
Poor shedding can lead to stuck skin, especially on toes and tail.
